Absolutely NOT!!! Although it is a smart thing to ask, the answer is...NO!! If you apply heat to your synthetic hair...it will fry and there will be no going back or fixing your damaged lady. Accidents do happen, but stay away from things such as the oven as well, because one quick blast of heat and your lady is damaged forever!! (So, if you are looking to style your wig / topper, consider a human hair piece).
A wig that is hand-tied means that each strand of hair has been tied into the cap by a person vs a machine. The hand-tied / lace front wigs allow the scalp to show underneath the wig. It gives it a more natural look and feel. That being said, machine-tied is not a bad option. Since it is an open wefted cap, it is known to be cooler and not as hot during spring and summer time. The hand-tied is more expensive because you are paying for a more natural look and more comfortable cap that doesn't tend to bunch up at the top / back. It all comes down to preference and which cap the customer is comfortable with.
The best type of wig if one is going to be wearing it everyday, is a shorter length wig, either hand-tied or machine-tied. We would recommend a hand-tied cap for a more comfortable everyday feeling. The really long hair wigs tend to get tangled and frizzy on the ends as time goes by. Wearing the longer wigs for a special occasion instead of every day is what we would recommend.
This is a question that many people have not only felt, but asked us numerous times. Some wonder if they are crazy for being so torn and upset over the loss of their hair. The answer to that is...NO you are NOT crazy, and YES you CAN be upset. Cancer patients that know chemo is going to take their hair are often devastated, and rightfully so. Cancer has already taken so many things from them, why does it get to take away someone's hair too? To many people, their hair is a part of them; it is what makes them feel pretty and confident. For people losing their hair outside of chemo, due to stress or alopecia, it is still okay to feel remorse over your hair falling out every single day. Do not feel guilty or as if you shouldn't be complaining because "other people have it worse". You are ALLOWED to be upset, you are ALLOWED to feel down and feel like you're losing self-esteem. That is why WE ARE HERE TO HELP YOU find the hair that you want and LOVE, and to make you feel confident again. No matter what the reason is...losing your hair and watching it fall out is tragic and you have every right to be upset, so let US help YOU!
Jon Renau features many different products to help make wearing a wig more comfortable. The Cotton Wig Liner, worn inside of a wig, will give a soft and comfortable barrier in between the wearer and the wig. If the wig feels a little loose, Jon Renau offers a Sure Grip Band, this is a silicone band that is worn around the circumference of your head and fastens with Velcro. This can also help alleviate any discomfort from pressure points on the head. Wig liners and Headline It! can also help a wig stay on more securely and provide extra comfort to those experiencing sensitivity while wearing a wig.
We recommend using Jon Renau's Fiber Love Shampoo for Synthetic Fiber, along with the Jon Renau Fiber Love Conditioning Spray for Synthetic Fiber. HD Smooth Detangler works great on all synthetic fibers and can be used daily to help keep the fibers from tangling and frizzing.
For human hair wigs and hair systems, Jon Renau recommends using the Human Hair Care Kit, featuring everything you will need to care for human hair. The Jon Renau Argan Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner are formulated to cleanse and condition alternative hair and will help it maintain its integrity. The Human Hair Care Kit also features the Heat Treat Thermal Styling Spray which protects human hair and heat resistant fiber from heat styling by putting a protective barrier in between the hair/fiber and the heat-styling tool. The Argan Treatment Mist is a great product to use before blow-drying to help cut down drying time and smooth the hair. It can be used after styling to help with any frizz and give the hair a healthy sheen. The Argan Treatment Mist can also be used as a deep conditioning treatment when blended together with the Argan Smooth Conditioner. The Jon Renau 3-Way Versatile Hair Spray is a wonderful working spray, finishing spray, and super hold.
Depending on the fiber, a wig can take anywhere from 12-24 hours to dry completely. Synthetic and heat resistant fibers do not absorb water and will dry much faster than human hair, yet the cap materials will hold water and take longer to dry. Jon Renau and easihair recommend that you allow your synthetic and heat resistant fiber products to air dry naturally on a wig stand. Use a blow dryer and heat styling tools to dry any human hair products to maintain smooth and manageable hair.
Jon Renau's heat resistant fiber can withstand temperatures up to 350 degrees, yet we find that a great "working temperature" is anywhere between 270 - 280 degrees.
Although you can blow dry your heat resistant products, Jon Renau and easihair recommend that you allow this fiber to air dry naturally for best results. Since it is a synthetic fiber, it is not porous and cannot absorb water. This means that the hair fiber of your wig/extensions will dry quickly (about an hour). Should anyone wish to use a blow dryer to speed things up, we recommend using a cool temperature setting and ONLY your wide tooth comb to style. Be sure to use HD Smooth Detangler.
Industry-wide we DO NOT recommend coloring or perming ANY human hair products. Most factories use a textile-like dye on all human hair after it's been lightened to guarantee the color won't fade. This type of dye is very difficult to remove and does not react well with human hair chemical services. However, Jon Renau does offer an exclusive color collection called "RN" (Renau Naturals) that do not contain any added dyes. This will allow professionals the option to lift and/or deposit up to 2-3 levels on these specific colors: 4RN, 6RN, 8RN, FS12/26RN, 24B22RN. Chemically altering a human hair system in any way is always a risk and can lower the integrity and condition of the hair. Due to the use of textile-like dyes in the processing of human hair, we ONLY recommend coloring, lightening (bleaching), or perming human hairstyles that are available in the RN colors. Please contact your account manager for more information.
The style and cap construction you chose will depend greatly on your client and their needs. There are a few things that generally are deciding factors for a client choosing a wig; price, lifestyle, and temporary vs permanent hair loss. For clients looking to purchase a wig for temporary hair loss, keep within a smaller budget, and want a low maintenance style, we recommend the Classic or O'solite cap constructions. These are both fully wefted caps that are easy to care for and wear, as well as offer a lower price point. Generally, the more natural a wig looks, and the more labor that is involved, the higher the cost. A Mono Top wig will give the client a natural appearance of hair growth at the top, allowing multi-directional parting. 100% hand-tied caps will give the client the most natural look and feel, mimicking natural hair growth throughout.
With proper care and maintenance, a synthetic wig that is worn daily can last anywhere from 6-9 months and upwards. This will greatly depend on the care that is taken of the wig. The cap construction and base material will play a large part in this, because the more natural a system looks, the less durable it is.
Human hair wigs that are worn every day can generally last 9-12 months and upwards, depending on care and maintenance. The cap construction and base material will play a large part in this, because the more natural a system looks, the less durable it is.
Yes. All synthetic and high heat fibers have a "baked-in" curl pattern and style to the hair and will not react to moisture. Heat resistant fiber will not change its style until manipulated with heat (curling irons, flat irons, etc).
Your hair system can be stored in between wearing on a mannequin head or a wig stand. This will make sure that the style and cap stay in their original form. It's important to gently comb out your hair system before storing for optimal results. For long-term storage, your system is best kept in its original packaging in a safe, dry, cool place.
